Interesting Euregional links
Below are interesting links related to the Hurricane Brassband and its music in the Euroregion and/or New Orleans.
Jazz aan de Maas
So we start with a nice website about the Limburg and Eurregional event Jazz aan de Maas .
This is organised by foundation Jazzclub 14 and is held in ‘De Sjtasie’ Swalmen (near Roermond).
The aim of the organisation is to offer a stage to talented and established Euroregional jazz musicians and jazz bands from the Venlo-Weert and Maastricht region.
Check the Jazz aan de Maas website for their programme and more information.
Café Aux Arcades (Maastricht)
Café ‘Aux Arcades‘ on the Sint Annalaan in Maastricht (Limburg) is our base for our rehearsals and where everyone kindly laughs at our ‘wrong’ jokes. (René, I won’t mention names ……. we have 2 René’s in the band so this writer is safe for now 😉

WWOZ-radio
One of the wonderful experiences we had as band, was being in a broadcoast of WWOZ-radio in New Orleans. Our friends Mr. Benny Jones (click here for an interview at WWOZ) of the Tremé Brass Band and Mr. Roger Lewis of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band brought us to the WWOZ-studio to the late Mr Robert “Bob” French Sr. This meeting finally resulted in the first CD of the Hurricane Brassband recorded in New Orleans. Which brings us to the first special link of …….
Accidentally the Hurricanes of the Netherlands took the same name not knowing there was already a Hurricane Brass Band in New Orleans. The naming of the Dutch Hurricanes was a result of the consumption of some “Hurricane’s” at Pat O’Brien in the past which made an indelible impression on some of us …. Nevertheless, both band leaders Leroy Jones of the Original Hurricane Brass Band and Hugo Kuijpers talked about this and after some beers everybody was fine. Thank you, Leroy!
Next link is related to a great party we had together with New Orleans musicians in the Candlelight Lounge. Fantastic people, great music and beautiful memories!
