Our music sounds like …

The Hurricane Brassband from Maastricht has a sound you won’t hear anywhere else. We play in the tradition of the classic New Orleans brass bands – think of the energy of groups like the Eureka, Tuxedo en de Onward Brass Band. Our roots lie firmly in that old‑school style. Still, we occasionally make a fresh leap toward more modern brass band sounds, such as those of the Rebirth Brass Band. The result: authentic New Orleans vibes with a unique Maastricht twist.

Performing on stages around the world

Our music has taken us to countless renowned jazz festivals: Jazz Ascona (CH), Gronau Jazz (D), Jazztage Lichtensteig (CH), Breda, Jazz Festival Enkhuizen (NL) , Internationales Dixieland Festival Dresden (D)… And of course to New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. We performed there for several years during the French Quarter Festival. We also play gospel masses, where our music adds an extra dimension to the experience.

Keeping the spirit of New Orleans alive

To keep breathing the true New Orleans tradition, we regularly organize workshops with people like Lilian Boutté, Thomas L’Etienne, the late Milton Batiste (Olympia Brass Band), Benny Jones (Tremé Brass Band), Leroy Jones en Rick Trolsen — all of whom have lifted us to higher New Orleans spheres. These encounters keep our music sharp, pure and full of character.

Whether it’s an intimate café performance, a vibrant jazz festival, a street parade, a corporate event, a neighborhood party, an opening, a wedding or even a funeral — we bring the right atmosphere. We also give presentations and lectures about New Orleans and traditional brass band music, ideal for cultural events or educational programs.
